Why I Became Certified as an NAET Practitioner

When I first became an Acupuncturist I thought that if I was going to leave NYC then would be the time to do it.  I traveled all over the country looking at practices for sale and, at each and every one of them, I was told to go study NAET.  I had no idea what they were talking about.  I promised myself, after the 10th time I was told this, that if I was given this advice one more time, I would have to go do it.  So, off to Buena Park I went.  Still not knowing what I was doing.  At Basics I I was lucky enough to meet 2 moms who were Medical Doctors who were there to learn the technique simply to treat their children.  Nothing else had worked and they had tried every drug in the book.  NAET worked for them.  One's child was so allergic he couldn't go outside.  After 4 treatments he was going outside again.  The other one had children with severe ADD/ADHD.  After 10 treatments her mother came to visit and said, "I don't know what you're doing, but keep doing it. . .it's working!"  I was so grateful to these women for telling me their stories.  I knew that I was in the right place and would be able to help many people.

Allopathy & Western Sciences

Knowledge of the brain, cranial nerves, spinal nerves and autonomic nervous system from Western medicine enlightens us about the body’s efficient, multilevel communication network. Through this network of nerves, vital energy circulates through the body carrying negative and positive messages from the brain to each and every cell in the body and back to the brain. Knowledge of the nervous system, its origin, travel pathway, the organs and tissues that will benefit from its nerve energy supplies (target organs and tissues) and its destination, helps us to understand the energy distribution of particular spinal nerves that emerge from the 31 pairs of spinal nerve roots.

Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the art and science of movement of the human body. Kinesiology is used in NAET to compare the strength and weakness of any muscle (also known as neuromuscular sensitivity testing (NST)) of the body in the presence and absence of any substance. A measured weakness in the presence of a substance is due to the effect of an allergy to the item the person is touching. This simple method can be used to detect your allergens.

Acupuncture / Oriental Medicine

Yin-Yang theory from Oriental medicine principles teaches the importance of maintaining homeostasis in the body. According to Oriental medicine principles, “when the body is in perfect balance, no disease is possible.” Any disturbance in the homeostasis can cause disease. Any allergen capable of producing a weakening muscular effect in the body can cause disturbance in homeostasis. Hence, diseases can be prevented and cured by maintaining homeostasis. According to Acupuncture theory, Acupuncture and/or Acupressure at certain acupuncture points is capable of bringing the body to a state of homeostasis by removing the energy blockages from the energy pathways known as meridians. When the blockages are removed, energy can flow freely through the energy meridians, thus bringing the body in perfect balance.

Nutrition

You are what you eat! The secret to good health is achieved through right nutrition. What is right nutrition? And how do you get it? When you can eat nutritious foods without discomfort and assimilate their nutrients, that food is said to be the right food. When you get indigestion, bloating, or other digestive troubles upon eating the food, that food is not helping you function normally. This is due to an allergy to the food. Different foods react differently in different people. What is food for some may be poison for others.  .

What kinds of allergies does NAET treat?

NAET can treat a wide range of environmental, food, and chemical allergens. Some of the more common allergens include pollens, dairy, pet dander, pesticides, and preservatives.

How is a treatment protocol developed?

One allergen is treated at a time. If you are not severely immune deficient, you may need just one treatment to desensitize one allergen. A person with mild to moderate amounts of allergies may take about 15-20 office visits to desensitize 15-20 food and environmental allergens.

The 15 Basic essential nutrients are tested during the initial consultation and a treatment plan is developed.  Chemicals, environmental allergens, vaccinations, immunizations, etc. are treated after completing 15 basic essential nutrients. NAET can successfully alleviate adverse reactions to egg, milk, peanuts, penicillin, aspirin, mushrooms, shellfish, latex, grass, ragweed, flowers, perfume, animal dander, animal epithelial, make-up, chemicals, cigarette smoke, pathogens, heat, cold, other environmental agents. It may take several office visits to desensitize a severe allergen.

What happens after the treatment?

For 25 hours after the treatment it is essential that the patient does not come into close contact with the allergen treated. This gives the body time to absorb and maintain the treatment as it processes and unwinds the substance through the Meridian cycle.  At the next treatment the allergen is retested to see if the treatment has held. Reactions to treatment vary from one patient to another. Some patients report feeling better immediately while others may fell slightly fatigued.

How many treatments are needed?

Testing will allow your Acupuncturist to identify the number of allergens that need to be treated. One allergen is treated at a time and sometimes a single treatment clears each allergen. Sometimes more treatments are needed if the allergy is severe.  Some patients require only a few treatments. Patients with long-term health problems and multiple underlying allergies may require a longer course of treatment.

How does NAET differ from Western Medicine treatment for allergies?

Western medicine attributes allergies to an over-reactive immune system where an allergic person is highly sensitive to substances that are often harmless to the majority of individuals. Western medical treatment involves drug therapy (antihistamines or steroids) to control allergic symptoms. This approach does not correct the underlying problem and can lead to side effects.

NAET views allergies from a holistic perspective based on Chinese medical theory which sees an allergic response as an energy flow irregularity interfering with normal nervous system communication. NAET treats the cause of allergies by reprogramming the body’s response to the identified allergen.

What can I expect on the first visit?

A full hour is scheduled for an initial visit. Your first appointment will include a complete review of your medical history, testing, and your first treatment.

Can children be treated with NAET?

NAET is safe and effective for people of all ages…children, infants, the elderly and pregnant women.

What kind of Certification is needed to Practice NAET?

Only doctors of Medicine, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Dentistry, Naturopathy, and registered Nurses sponsored by a doctor are eligible for NAET training. Qualified practitioners receive required training in NAET theory and methods. Additional workshops and seminars provide continued training at intermediate and advanced levels. A practitioner’s training credentials can be viewed at the NAET website (www.naet.com).

Why haven’t I heard more about NAET?

By medical standards, NAET is quite new and therefore, like many alternative treatments, it is not yet well-known among traditional doctors. While more that 8,000 doctors practice NAET world-wide, that is still a relatively small number.
